Two suspected cash-in-transit robbers were shot and fatally wounded during a shootout with police in Wasbank, near Ladysmith, on Thursday afternoon, 22 May 2025.
According to police reports, officers acted on intelligence regarding the suspects’ whereabouts. The duo was wanted in connection with at least six cash-in-transit robberies that occurred in KwaDukuza, Verulam, Nyoni, Greytown, Phoenix, and Langslaagte between June 2022 and March 2025.
Upon locating the house where the suspects were hiding, police identified themselves, prompting the suspects to open fire. A shootout ensued, resulting in both suspects being fatally wounded.
One of the suspects, a 43-year-old man, had an outstanding warrant of arrest for possession of explosives and ammunition. Police recovered two firearms at the scene. No officers were injured during the confrontation.
