The Cape Flats has again topped South Africa’s crime rankings, with four of the country’s five deadliest precincts located in Cape Town.
New SAPS data reveals a surge in murders in Philippi East, Delft, and Mfuleni, though Nyanga saw a slight decline. Gang violence remains rampant, with over 90 killings reported between January and March.
Police Minister Senzo Mchunu announced plans to deploy 5,500 new officers, but activists demand a judicial commission, calling the area a “war zone.”
