Man Gets 15 Years for Raping Teen After Luring Her with Mandrax in Port Nolloth

The Namakwa District Management has welcomed the conviction of a 33-year-old man for the rape of a 19-year-old woman in November 2022.

The incident occurred on 6 November 2022 after the victim assisted the accused with gravel and later smoked mandrax with him. The accused then sexually assaulted her without her consent. The victim screamed for help, and bystanders intervened before she reported the crime to the police.

Members of the Port Nolloth South African Police Service (SAPS) swiftly arrested the suspect. After a lengthy legal process, the Port Nolloth Regional Court found the accused guilty of rape on 21 May 2025. He was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment, handed down by the Regional Court in Springbok.

In addition to his prison term, the convict’s name will be added to the National Register for Sex Offenders, and he has been declared unfit to possess a firearm.
