The City of Cape Town has launched the Let’s Act: Protect Your Power campaign in response to rampant electricity infrastructure theft, which has cost the metro R62 million between July 2024 and April 2025.
Alderman Zanthea Lindberg, Mayoral Committee Member for Energy, announced new measures, including specialized energy safety teams and expanded underground cabling, to curb vandalism. Areas like Langa, Bonteheuwel, and Epping have faced severe outages due to stolen infrastructure.
The city has allocated R76.7 billion over the next three years to secure power infrastructure. Residents are urged to report suspicious activity to the City’s tip-off line at 021 480 7700.
