Joint Anti-Smuggling Operation Nets Suspect with R8 Million Worth of Dagga in Limpopo

A 27-year-old male suspect was arrested during a coordinated anti-smuggling operation conducted by the Limpopo Tracking and Task Teams, alongside other police units and external law enforcement agencies.

Authorities acted on intelligence regarding a white Toyota Hilux bakkie suspected of transporting dagga from Eswatini to the Vhembe District. A search operation was immediately launched, leading to the identification of the vehicle towing a trailer along the R36 public road near the Mooketsi Weigh-bridge at approximately 07:00.

Upon stopping and searching the bakkie, police discovered 42 bags of compressed dagga weighing 851.85 kg, with an estimated street value of R8 million. The suspect failed to provide a legitimate explanation for the origin of the drugs and was promptly arrested.

The Toyota Hilux and trailer used in the commission of the crime were also confiscated.

The suspect is scheduled to appear before the Tzaneen Magistrate’s Court today, Monday, June 2, 2025, facing charges of dealing in drugs. Police investigations remain ongoing.
