ANC Condemns Attacks on Councillors in Pienaar, Mpumalanga

Mbombela, Mpumalanga – The African National Congress (ANC) in Mpumalanga has strongly condemned recent attacks on two of its ward councillors in Pienaar, outside Mbombela. The latest incident occurred over the weekend when unidentified gunmen opened fire on a councillor’s home.

According to police reports, no injuries were sustained in the shooting, though the councillor’s garage door and bedroom windows were damaged. The assailants reportedly used a high-caliber firearm, suspected to be a rifle.

The councillor, who was asleep at the time of the attack, recounted that the high walls surrounding his property prevented the gunmen from entering the house. This marks the second such incident in the area, with unconfirmed reports suggesting the attacks may be linked to “construction mafias.”

The ANC in Mpumalanga has called for swift action, urging law enforcement to apprehend those responsible.

“The ANC in Mpumalanga condemns the attack on the two councillors in Mbombela Local Municipality. We believe those behind these acts must be arrested,” said a party representative. “The matter has been reported to the police, and we are assured it is receiving the necessary attention.”

The Mbombela Local Municipality has also denounced the attacks, appealing to residents to cooperate with police investigations to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.

Authorities are continuing their investigations, and the ANC has expressed hope for a detailed report soon. The party emphasized that everyone has the right to safety and security in their homes.
