A 42-year-old man from Mcwabantsasa locality, Mzintlava Administrative Area, was robbed at gunpoint on Friday evening, 06 June 2025, while at home with his wife and children.
The incident occurred around 20:00 when two unknown male suspects entered the victim’s home, forcing the family to lie on their stomachs. The assailants stole the victim’s vehicle, cellphones, and an undisclosed amount of money before fleeing the scene.
After the suspects left, the victim immediately reported the robbery at the nearest Public Order Policing base. Authorities from the Port St John’s Police were alerted and, during their patrols, spotted the hijacked Toyota bakkie. A swift response led to the arrest of a 24-year-old suspect from Sibangweni locality in Mthatha.
Investigations revealed that the other suspects were traveling in a VW Polo, believed to have been used as an escort vehicle during the robbery. Police are actively pursuing the remaining suspects to ensure they face justice.
The arrested suspect is currently detained at Lusikisiki Police Station and is expected to appear in court on Monday, 09 June 2025, facing charges of house robbery and possession of a suspected stolen vehicle.
