A 29-year-old man was arrested in Ottery on Friday morning after his suspicious behaviour prompted a chase and led to the discovery of an illegal firearm.
The incident occurred on 24 October 2025, when members of the Grassy Park police were conducting crime prevention patrols. Officers noticed an unknown male who began acting suspiciously upon seeing the police vehicle approach.
The suspect immediately started running, prompting the members to give chase. They successfully apprehended the man and conducted a search.
During the search, police found a 9mm pistol in his possession, along with 29 rounds of ammunition. The suspect was arrested on the spot and now faces charges for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
He is scheduled to make his first court appearance in the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
