Police have arrested a 34-year-old man and are investigating a case of murder following a fatal shooting at a tavern in Bultfontein. The incident resulted in the death of a 24-year-old man.
The event unfolded in the early hours of Saturday, 25 October 2025. At approximately 03:55, police officers conducting patrol duties in the Phahameng area received a complaint about a shooting at a nearby tavern.
According to police, they responded swiftly to the scene. Upon arrival, they discovered an unresponsive African male lying in a pool of blood. Further investigation revealed the victim had sustained a gunshot wound to his chest. Emergency services personnel certified the 24-year-old deceased at the scene.
Preliminary information suggests that the victim and the suspect were seen quarrelling moments before the shooting. It is alleged that the suspect briefly went outside the tavern. Upon his return, he produced a firearm, leading to a physical scuffle between the two men. The altercation culminated in the suspect fatally shooting the deceased.
The suspect allegedly fled the scene immediately after the shooting. However, he left behind his spectacles and a cap.
Police have confirmed that evidence collected from the scene includes two used 9mm cartridges, one live 9mm round of ammunition, one pair of spectacles, and a blue cap.
A case of murder was officially registered, leading to the subsequent arrest of the 34-year-old suspect. He is scheduled to make his first appearance before the Bultfontein Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 27 October 2025.
