The Bluedowns Regional Court has handed down significant prison sentences to three individuals convicted on charges of possessing illegal firearms and ammunition. On Friday, 24 October 2025, Siphelele Ngcobo (27), Nkosomzi Cuba (41), and Unathi Mooi (39) were sentenced to a collective total of 42 years’ imprisonment.
The court delivered the individual sentences as follows:

Siphelele Ngcobo (27)Â received twelve (12) years imprisonment for the possession of prohibited firearms and an additional five (5) years for the possession of ammunition. The sentences will run consecutively, resulting in an effective term of seventeen (17) years of direct imprisonment.

Nkosomzi Cuba (41)Â was sentenced to eight (8) years of direct imprisonment for the possession of prohibited firearms.

Unathi Mooi (39)Â was given twelve (12) years for the possession of prohibited firearms, plus five (5) years of direct imprisonment for the possession of ammunition. Like Ngcobo, his sentences will run consecutively, leading to an effective term of seventeen (17) years in prison.
In addition to their prison terms, the court invoked the Firearms Control Act, Act 60 of 2000. All three accused were formally declared unfit to ever possess a firearm.
