Culpable Homicide Case Opened After Toddler Dies in Locked Car at Seshego Hospital

A culpable homicide investigation is underway following the tragic death of a three-year-old girl who was found locked inside a vehicle at Seshego Hospital on Monday, October 27, 2025.

According to police reports, the Seshego Police Station was alerted to the incident at approximately 15:10. Officers responded to a complaint at the hospital and were met by a doctor on the premises.

The doctor directed authorities to a blue Toyota Corolla Cross parked in the hospital yard. Police were informed that the three-year-old child had been discovered locked inside the car with its windows closed, seated in the back seat.

Medical personnel at the scene pronounced the child dead. Preliminary reports suggest the toddler succumbed to the heat and a lack of oxygen while trapped inside the vehicle.

Initial police investigations indicate that the child’s mother had left her in the car earlier that morning at around 07:00. The mother had reportedly rushed into the medical facility for a handover session and seemingly forgot the child was in the vehicle.
