Police Nab Two for Copper Cable Theft

A coordinated intelligence-driven operation led to the arrest of two male suspects in Tsantsabela village on Wednesday, 29 October 2025, for the alleged possession and tampering of stolen copper cables.

The successful operation was conducted by a joint team consisting of the Sekhukhune District Tracking and Investigation Team and the Elandskraal Detectives. According to police reports, the operation was launched after authorities received a tip from a reliable source regarding individuals in possession of suspected stolen copper cables in the Elandskraal area.

Acting swiftly on the information, the team proceeded to a specified address in Tsantsabela village. Upon arrival, they discovered the two suspects, aged 21 and 19, in possession of the alleged stolen materials.

The recovered items included peeled copper cables, a pick, two spades, and kitchen knives, all believed to have been used in the commission of the crime.

Preliminary investigations have since linked the suspects to a specific incident. It is alleged that they dug up the copper cables from a Dropping Centre. Consequently, the two have been charged with possession of suspected stolen property and tampering with essential infrastructure.

They are expected to appear before a local magistrate’s court in the near future.
