A 43-year-old woman is scheduled to appear before the Rustenburg Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 3 November 2025, facing charges of murder and defeating the ends of justice.
The court appearance follows her arrest by Boitekong police on Thursday, 30 October 2025. The arrest came after human remains, believed to be those of her 20-year-old daughter, were exhumed from the yard of her residence in Seraleng, Boitekong, near Rustenburg.
According to police reports, the investigation was initiated after a concerned family member grew suspicious upon not seeing the young woman for several months. When the family member questioned the mother about her daughter’s whereabouts, the accused claimed her daughter was visiting her father’s relatives in Limpopo Province.
However, this account was contradicted when the father was contacted; he denied the mother’s version of events.
This discrepancy prompted a preliminary police investigation at the accused’s Seraleng home. During the investigation, officers identified a suspicious area in the yard that had been covered with a concrete slab. An exhumation was subsequently conducted on Thursday, 30 October 2025, leading to the discovery of human remains.
The 43-year-old mother was immediately arrested on the scene. She remains in custody and will face formal charges in court on Monday.
