Man Sentenced to 13 Years for Raping Elderly Aunt


r Circuit Regional Court for the rape of his 61-year-old aunt.

The court heard that the incident occurred in the early hours of 17 December 2021. The victim was awakened at approximately 02:00 by an unknown person who was sexually assaulting her. The assailant threatened to kill her if she screamed before fleeing the scene.

Following the attack, the victim managed to escape her home through a window and ran to her daughter’s house to seek help. The police were contacted immediately, and the victim was taken to a hospital for a medical examination.

The case was assigned to the Carnarvon Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit for investigation. Investigators conducted a thorough probe, which included collecting forensic evidence from all individuals who had been at the house prior to the incident.

This forensic evidence proved crucial, as it provided a positive link to the accused. He was subsequently arrested on 21 July 2023 and was later released on bail.

On Wednesday, 29 October 2025, the accused was convicted. In addition to the 13-year prison sentence, the court declared him unfit to possess a firearm.
