Man, Two Children Die in House Fire, Police Launch Inquest


South African Police Service (SAPS) have opened an inquest following a devastating house fire in the early hours of Sunday, which claimed the lives of a 29-year-old man and two young children.

The incident occurred on 02 November 2025 at a residence on Banto Holomisa Street in Khayamnandi, Despatch. According to reports, SAPS Despatch responded to a complaint of a house fire at approximately 02:20.

Upon arrival, authorities discovered the home had been completely gutted by the blaze. After the fire was extinguished, the bodies of the three deceased were found inside. The victims are one adult male, aged 29, and two children, aged 4 and 6.

The names of the deceased are being withheld pending the completion of a formal identification process.

The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time. Police have confirmed that the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy is ongoing.
