Northern Cape Police Intercept Drugs Valued at R20,000


A multi-disciplinary team from the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Noupoort has successfully intercepted a substantial quantity of drugs, preventing them from reaching the community. The operation took place in the early hours of Monday, 03 November 2025.

According to police reports, the operation was launched after authorities received credible intelligence about a man traveling from George to Noupoort who was suspected of being in possession of illegal substances.

Acting on this information, officers were stationed to monitor incoming transport. At approximately 02:30, they identified and approached a man matching the suspect’s description as he disembarked from a bus.

A thorough search of the man’s luggage was conducted, leading to the discovery of mandrax tablets and tik (crystal meth). The drugs were seized by police.

The 31-year-old suspect was immediately placed under arrest for possession of drugs. The estimated street value of the confiscated narcotics is R20,000.

The man is expected to appear in the Noupoort Magistrate’s Court soon to face formal charges.
