Two men, both aged 38, were arrested in the early hours of Tuesday, 04 November 2025, for stock theft involving slaughtered cattle with an estimated street value of R100,000.
The arrest occurred between Leslie and Devon along the N17 road at approximately 04:00. The breakthrough came from members of the Leslie Crime Prevention unit, who were conducting routine crime prevention patrols and stop-and-search operations on the N17.
At about 04:55, the officers noticed a suspicious white bakkie with a canopy and a Gauteng registration number travelling towards Devon. The vehicle was promptly stopped.
Upon requesting to search the vehicle, police discovered five brand-marked cattle carcasses that had been slaughtered. The bakkie was noted to be filled with grass, and the driver could not provide a valid explanation for being in possession of the meat.

The two men were immediately placed under arrest for stock theft. The brand-marked carcasses, along with the vehicle used in the alleged crime, were seized and booked into SAPS storage for further investigation.
The suspects are expected to make their initial appearance at the Leslie Periodical Court soon.
