Two Arrested, R7.7 Million Worth of Dagga Seized


In a significant blow to drug trafficking operations, Namakwa district police seized dagga with an estimated street value of R7.7 million during a routine patrol in the early hours of Wednesday, 5 November 2025.

The operation led to the arrest of two suspects after vigilant officers from the Steinkopf SAPS, specifically C relief, identified a suspicious vehicle. The incident occurred at the junction of the N7 and R382 roads near Steinkopf, where police noticed the vehicle was heavily loaded with boxes at the back.

Upon intercepting and searching the vehicle, officers uncovered a substantial quantity of dagga. The provisional weight of the confiscated narcotics is reported to be 64,800 kilograms.

Two male suspects, both aged 33, were taken into custody at the scene. The vehicle used in the alleged operation was also seized by authorities.

The suspects are now in police custody and are expected to be formally charged with dealing in drugs. Their court appearance is anticipated in the near future.
