Police Anti-Gang Unit Arrests Two in Ottery, Seizes Firearm and Ammunition


A continued police clampdown on gang-related crime in the Western Cape yielded results on Friday night, leading to the arrest of two suspects in Ottery for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

According to police reports, members of the Anti-Gang Unit were conducting routine patrols in the Ottery Marble Flats area when their attention was drawn to a male individual in Woodgate Court. Upon noticing the police presence, the man immediately fled, prompting officers to give chase on foot. The suspect was successfully apprehended a short distance away.

A subsequent search of the 24-year-old suspect led to the discovery of a 9mm pistol and 28 rounds of ammunition in his possession.

In a connected operation later that evening, the same unit of officers conducted a search at a separate premises in Ottery. During this search, they found five rounds of ammunition, leading to the arrest of a 27-year-old male for the illegal possession of ammunition.

Both suspects have been detained and are scheduled to make their respective court appearances at the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 10 November 2025.
