A high-speed police chase in Cosmo City on Saturday ended with one suspect fatally wounded and another in custody, following a shootout with officers. The operation was part of a manhunt for suspects that includes Jabulani Moyo, a fugitive wanted for escaping lawful custody and the August murder of two police officers in Roodepoort.
The confrontation began after police from Crime Intelligence units acted on credible information regarding a group planning a business robbery in the Fairlands and Honeydew areas.
On Saturday, 15 November 2025, officers located two vehicles matching the description of those used by the suspects: a grey Audi and a white VW Polo. As police moved to apprehend the occupants, the suspects disembarked and immediately opened fire, initiating a shootout.
During the ensuing chaos, several suspects fled on foot. Two others managed to get into the white VW Polo and sped away from the scene. Police pursued the vehicle into Cosmo City, where the chase culminated in an exchange of gunfire. One suspect was fatally shot during the confrontation, while the second was apprehended at the scene.
A subsequent search led to the recovery of two unlicensed firearms—an AK-47 rifle and a pistol—along with ammunition.
A search for the remaining suspects who fled, including the wanted Jabulani Moyo, is currently underway.
The arrested suspect is facing a litany of charges, including attempted murder, possession of unlicensed firearms, and possession of ammunition, amongst other crimes.
