In a targeted operation to combat ongoing gang violence, members of the provincial Anti-Gang Unit arrested a suspect in possession of an unlicensed firearm in the Steenberg policing precinct on Saturday night, 06 December 2025.
The arrest followed an intelligence-driven operation. Officers, who are specifically deployed in the area to address gang-related crimes, acted on information and pursued a lead in the nearby suburb of Retreat. There, they located and apprehended a man matching the provided description.
Upon searching the suspect, the unit discovered an unlicensed firearm loaded with ten rounds of ammunition in his possession.
Subsequent investigation uncovered that the arrested individual is a wanted fugitive. He is sought in connection with separate cases of murder and attempted murder that occurred within the Steenberg area.
As a result, the suspect now faces a series of serious charges. These include the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, as well as murder and attempted murder.
The accused is due to be formally charged for these crimes and will thereafter make his first appearance before the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court.
