From classroom to community: A school united Bertrams for the first time

Johannesburg: December 2025: In a community where access to quality education had been limited for generations, the opening of Lepro Institute in January 2024 marked a turning point for families in Bertrams. Founded by Siphokuhle Ndlovu, the school was created with a bold mission to offer quality, affordable education to children in an underserved community and to ensure that every learner, regardless of background, felt valued, supported and capable of achieving great things.

As the school neared the end of its first year, that mission was already transforming lives.

On Friday, 5 December, Lepro Institute hosted its first-ever Christmas in Bertrams event, a festive community gathering designed to bring joy, unity and opportunity to the neighborhood. The celebration showcased the school’s growing impact and provided families a chance to experience the nurturing environment that had already made it a trusted choice for parents seeking quality education.

Many parents took advantage of the occasion to register their children for the 2026 academic year, recognising Lepro Institute as a beacon of hope and a safe learning environment in a community that had long been overlooked.

In the words of a parent whose child attended the school: “Lepro Institute has changed our lives. It’s more than a school, it’s a place where our children are seen and supported. You can already feel the difference it’s making in the whole community.”

The Christmas celebration also furthered the school’s broader mission of community upliftment by providing a platform for local entrepreneurs to showcase their products and services. Small businesses from the area were invited to set up stalls, turning the event into a vibrant local marketplace that encouraged creativity, income generation and a sense of pride.

“Our biggest mission was simple but powerful: to bring quality education to a community that had been overlooked for far too long,” said founder Siphokuhle Ndlovu. “Christmas in Bertrams demonstrated exactly what this school stood for: unity, joy and a future filled with hope.”

As Lepro Institute prepared for both its first Christmas celebration and the 2026 academic year, one thing was clear, the school’s influence was already being felt and its mission had never been stronger. The school continued to bring dignity, opportunity and a quality education to a community ready to rise.

Lepro Institute proved that real change began in the classroom and spread through the community, one child and one celebration at a time.
