In a successful #SaferFestiveSeason operation, Ntabethemba Police arrested a 62-year-old man on Tuesday, 9 December 2025, for the alleged possession of drugs and illicit cigarettes.
The arrest followed a tip-off regarding a taxi travelling from Komani to Ntabethemba, which was suspected of transporting an elderly man carrying narcotics. Police were provided with a description of the suspect.
Acting on the information, officers located and intercepted the vehicle. All passengers were subjected to a search, leading to the identification and search of the man in question.
During the search, officers reportedly discovered a substantial quantity of contraband in his possession. The seized items included 20 mandrax tablets (commonly known as “boss”), two small bags of tik (crystal meth), and five cartons of Sevilles illicit cigarettes, with each carton containing 10 packs.

The total estimated street value of the confiscated items is R5,950.
The suspect was arrested at the scene and subsequently appeared before the Ntabethemba Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 10 December 2025.
