Two Suspects Arrested for Illegal Firearms

Two suspected gang members were arrested in separate intelligence-driven operations this week for the unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition, Western Cape police confirmed.

On Tuesday, 10 February 2026, at approximately 20:26, members of Operation Lockdown III executed a search warrant at a residence on Blackberry Street in Bonteheuwel. During the operation, a 19-year-old male was taken into custody after officers recovered a .22 Star pistol along with its accompanying ammunition.

Hours later, at around 00:26 on Wednesday, 11 February 2026, the same operational team conducted a second search at a premises on Assegaai Street in Bonteheuwel. There, police seized a 9mm Pietro Beretta pistol and ammunition. A 40-year-old male suspect was arrested on site for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Both individuals are believed to be affiliated with gangs. They are expected to appear in the Bishop Lavis Magistrate’s Court once formally charged.
