Members of the Public Order Police (POP) arrested five suspects during an operation in the early hours of Saturday morning, 14 February 2026.
The arrest took place after police searched a premises in Zone 31, Joe Slovo informal settlement in Langa. During the search, authorities discovered copper cables with an estimated street value of R210,000 inside an informal dwelling.
The five suspects, aged between 21 and 31, were arrested on the scene and face charges for the illegal possession of copper cables. They are expected to appear in the Bishop Lavis Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 16 February 2026, once they have been formally charged.
