
Police in Port Nolloth have confiscated cigarettes with an estimated value of R259,886.80 during an operation targeting illicit trade.
According to police reports, the Acting Station Commander and another member on duty were en route to conduct a community awareness campaign in the Sizamile area when they identified a delivery truck suspected of transporting illicit cigarettes into the town.
The vehicle was stopped and searched with the consent of the driver. The search led to the discovery and confiscation of 912 cartons containing various brands of cigarettes.
Authorities have hailed the seizure as a significant success in the ongoing fight against the illicit economy in the region. No further details regarding the driver or potential arrests have been released at this time.
