Two Arrested After Stolen Nissan Found Stripped at Limpopo Scrapyard

A joint intelligence-led operation by South African Police Service (SAPS) units in Limpopo has resulted in the arrest of two men in connection with the theft of a motor vehicle and the possession of stolen property.

According to police reports, members of the Mahwelereng Detectives and VISPOL (Visible Policing) conducted a tactical operation on Monday afternoon, 16 February 2026, following a tip-off regarding a stolen vehicle.

Authorities had received information regarding a Nissan 1400 bakkie that was reported stolen in the Gilead policing area on 9 February 2026. Intelligence suggested the vehicle was located in Mahwelereng.

The operation led officers to a scrapyard situated along the R518 Marken Road in Masodi Village. Upon arrival, police discovered the Nissan 1400 had already been stripped. Several parts belonging to the stolen vehicle were recovered at the scene.

With the assistance of community members, police apprehended a 31-year-old male suspect in connection with the theft. The owner of the scrapyard, a 52-year-old man, was also taken into custody for the possession of stolen motor vehicle parts.

Both suspects are expected to appear in the Mahwelereng Magistrate’s Court soon to face charges related to the possession of stolen property and motor vehicle theft.
