Five Arrested in Krugersdorp Anti-Illegal Mining Operation

Members of the Provincial Stabilisation Illegal Mining Team arrested five suspects during a multidisciplinary operation targeting illegal mining activities in the West Rand District on Tuesday.

According to authorities, the operation was conducted at Shaft Nine in Krugersdorp jointly by the South African Police Service (SAPS) and the South African National Defence Force (SANDF).

During the raid, officials confiscated equipment used in illegal mining operations as well as Gold Bearing Material. Three of the five suspects were additionally charged for being in the country illegally.

All five individuals are in custody. Police confirmed that investigations are ongoing and that the suspects are scheduled to appear in court soon.
