
An attempted murder docket has been opened at the Parkweg police station following a shooting incident at a taxi rank in the Bloemfontein Central Business District on Thursday evening.
According to police reports, an injured taxi driver and his crew member arrived at the Parkweg Community Service Centre to report that they had been attacked by unknown persons at the Majakathata Long Taxi Rank on Short Street. The incident occurred on Thursday, 19 February 2026, at approximately 21:15.
The victims were traveling in a minibus taxi that sustained significant damage in the attack. Authorities confirmed that a total of 29 bullet holes were counted on the vehicle.
According to the crew’s statement, the taxi—operated by the Joselda Taxi Association—had arrived from Gauteng Province transporting 21 passengers. After offloading all passengers at the Majakathata Long Distance Taxi Rank, the two men left the rank to purchase food. As they attempted to turn into Short Street, unknown assailants opened fire on them from across the street. Despite being injured, the driver continued to drive until reaching Parkweg Police Station.
The 30-year-old taxi driver, who sustained injuries in the shooting, was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.
Crime Scene Experts were dispatched to process the location. During the investigation, eleven spent cartridges from R4 and R5 assault rifles were recovered and secured as evidence.
