Police in Thabazimbi have arrested a 30-year-old male suspect in connection with the murder of a 41-year-old Uber driver in the early hours of Sunday, 22 February 2026.
According to the preliminary report, at approximately 01:25, a community member contacted the deceased, requesting transport for a client from Regorogile to the town. The victim reportedly confirmed that he was in town and en route to the location.
Upon arriving at the four-way stop in Regorogile, the victim was allegedly followed by a silver Hyundai. It is reported that the occupants of the vehicle confronted and assaulted the man before stabbing him multiple times in the upper body with a sharp object.
The victim was rushed to a local hospital but was certified dead upon arrival.
Police have since opened a case of murder. Through investigative efforts, the suspect—believed to be the owner of the silver Hyundai used during the incident—was arrested at approximately 06:30 on the same day in Regorogile.
The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation. The 30-year-old suspect is expected to appear before the Thabazimbi Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 24 February 2026.
