A 30-year-old man has been sentenced to two terms of life imprisonment by the Wolmaransstad Regional Court for two separate rapes committed in 2017 and 2018.
Letlhogonolo Luckyboy Modisapodi was found guilty on two counts of rape. DNA evidence linked him to both incidents following his arrest on 10 December 2021.
In the first incident, reported on 4 June 2017, a 27-year-old woman was walking from Extension 15 to Extension 10 in Wolmaransstad when two men overpowered her. The suspects robbed her of money, forced her to a nearby house, and raped her.
In the second incident, reported on 7 November 2018, a 21-year-old woman was going to a nearby shop when two men threatened her with a knife. They took her to a nearby toilet and raped her.
The court also declared Modisapodi unfit to possess a firearm in terms of Section 103 of the Firearms Control Act 60 of 2000.
