Police in Mpumalanga have arrested a 21-year-old man in connection with the kidnapping, rape, and murder of a 7-year-old girl on Sunday, 08 March 2026.
According to authorities, police received a report of a missing child and immediately activated South African Police Service (SAPS) units, including Crime Intelligence, K9, and Detectives, to initiate a search. They were joined by private security officers, local farmers, and members of the Community Police Forum.
During the search, the child’s clothing was discovered discarded near a mealie field. Further investigation led to the apprehension of the suspect. Following his arrest, the man directed police to the mealie field, where the body of the missing girl was located.
The suspect is scheduled to appear before the Secunda Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 10 March 2026.
