Founder and Chairman of Sibaya Community Trust, Vivian Reddy, Donates R50,000 to Kickstart Telethon for Merewent Cheshire Home

A significant step towards hope and sustainability has been made as renowned businessman and philanthropist Vivian Reddy has generously donated R50,000 to officially kickstart the “10 Calls of Kindness” Telethon in support of Merewent Cheshire Home.

This contribution sets the tone for what is expected to be a powerful community-driven fundraising initiative aimed at securing the future of one of Durban’s most vital care facilities for persons living with disabilities.

Merewent Cheshire Home provides essential residential care, dignity, and support to individuals living with severe physical disabilities.

However, like many non-profit organisations, the Home is facing serious financial challenges that threaten its ability to continue delivering critical services.

Among the most pressing needs are:

  • The replacement of a specially adapted transport vehicle, essential for residents’ mobility and access to medical care
  • Settlement of a substantial municipal bill
  • Ongoing operational and care costs, including staffing, medical supplies, and daily living support

Without urgent intervention, these challenges could significantly impact the quality of life of residents who rely on the Home for daily care and support.

The leadership of Merewent Cheshire Home is calling on business leaders, corporates, and the broader community to rise as Champions of Kindness.

“The generous contribution by Vivian Reddy is more than a donation – it is a call to action,” said Chairman Raven Naidoo, of the Home.

“We urge corporates and individuals alike to come forward and support this cause.

Together, we can ensure that our residents continue to live with dignity, care, and hope.”

Businesses are encouraged to sponsor or contribute as follows:

  • Towards a new disability-friendly transport vehicle,
  • Assist in settling municipal arrears
  • Provide financial or in-kind support towards operational sustainability
  • Be a Champion of Kindness

The upcoming “10 Calls of Kindness” Telethon aims to unite the community in a shared mission – to uplift, support, and protect some of the most vulnerable members of society.

The Telethon takes place on 25th and 26th March from 9.30 am to 4 pm, 15 Eksteen Road, Merewent.

You can participate by calling 10 of your contacts to pledge or by making a pledge directly yourself.

Every contribution, no matter the size, brings the Home closer to stability and ensures that its residents continue to receive the care they deserve.

Together, We Can Make a Difference.

In a time where compassion and unity are needed most, this initiative stands as a reminder that kindness has the power to transform lives.

Be a Champion. Be the Difference.
