Police Launch Manhunt After Armed Gang Robs Bakery

The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Malamulele is investigating a business robbery that took place at a local bakery in Mudabula village in the early hours of Monday, 23 March 2026.

According to police reports, the incident occurred at approximately 01:15. A 42-year-old female employee was on duty alongside nine colleagues when an unknown male suspect entered the premises. The suspect produced a firearm and ordered the employees to lie on the floor.

Following this, four additional male suspects gained access to the property by breaking through a back gate. Once inside, the group tampered with security cameras and cut through a steel door leading to the store where a safe was located.

The five suspects stole an undisclosed amount of money from the safe before fleeing the scene.

Authorities said the incident was discovered when an employee arriving for duty found the workers locked inside the premises. The employee released them and subsequently alerted the bakery owner, who noted the damages.

A manhunt for the suspects has been activated.
