The Vryburg Regional Court sentenced 32-year-old Orapeleng Oneboy Mokgweetsi to ten years’ imprisonment on 18 March 2026 for the rape of a 17-year-old woman.
The offense occurred on 25 December 2018, when the accused went to the victim’s residence and asked her to call his girlfriend. After the girlfriend could not be located, Mokgweetsi threatened the victim with a knife and accused her of causing his girlfriend to be unfaithful. He then forcibly took the victim to his residence and raped her.
The victim reported the incident to her aunt, leading to the registration of a rape case at Vryburg Police Station. The accused was apprehended on 26 December 2018.
Following his conviction for rape, the court ordered that Mokgweetsi’s name be entered into the National Register for Sex Offenders.
