OR Tambo District Commissioner, Major General Norman Modishana, has welcomed the arrest of a 33-year-old man in connection with the alleged murder of his 35-year-old girlfriend.
The suspect was arrested on Friday, 27 March 2026, at approximately 16:40. The arrest follows an incident on Thursday, 26 March 2026, at around 05:30, where the victim was reportedly killed with an axe at Gebane locality, Marhubeni Administrative Area in Libode.
According to reports, the suspect had a quarrel with the victim in the early morning hours at her homestead. The victim’s 18-year-old daughter attempted to intervene but was chased away by the suspect. The suspect then allegedly hacked the victim to death with an axe and left the weapon at the scene.
Police were summoned to the scene, leading to the arrest.
The suspect is scheduled to appear before the Libode Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 30 March 2026, on a charge of murder.
