The Acting Provincial Commissioner of North West, Major General (Dr) Ryno Naidoo, has welcomed the sentencing of Mogotsi Kushumane (48) to four life terms of imprisonment by the Molopo Regional Court on March 26, 2026.
Kushumane was convicted for multiple rape incidents committed between 2013 and 2016 in Mmabatho and surrounding areas. The victims were attacked in separate incidents; some were accosted while with companions, while others were lured or overpowered before being sexually assaulted.
The investigation, led by Detective Sergeant Lorraine Semunza of Provincial Serial and Electronic Crime Investigation, utilized forensic DNA evidence that positively linked Kushumane to the crimes. He subsequently pleaded guilty to all charges.
The court handed down four life sentences, to run concurrently. Kushumane was declared unfit to possess a firearm, and his name will be entered into the National Register for Sex Offenders.
