Garland Man Turns Himself In, Charged With Murder in Fatal Grocery Store Stabbing

Garland police announced Saturday that a 32-year-old man turned himself in and now faces a murder charge in the stabbing death of a 39-year-old man inside a local grocery store the previous evening.

According to authorities, Juan Pedro Reyes, a Garland resident, surrendered to police in connection with the killing of Franky Selyma Arredondo Barrios. Reyes is currently being held in the Garland Detention Center on the murder charge, with no bond set.

The incident occurred Thursday night—described in initial reports as last night relative to the announcement—inside a Fiesta Mart grocery store on First Street. Officers responded to the scene around 8 p.m. after reports of the altercation and found Arredondo Barrios suffering from an apparent stab wound. He was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators released surveillance images captured inside the store showing the moments leading up to the fatal altercation. Police described the killing as a tragedy that unfolded while the victim was shopping.

Reyes is accused of carrying out the stabbing during the confrontation. Details about what sparked the altercation have not been publicly released.

The case remains under investigation by Garland police.
