MBA Students Give Back Through Annual CSR Drive

A group of 2nd-year MBA students from the Tshwane School of Business in Hatfield braved a rainy Saturday morning to carry out their annual Corporate Social Responsibility drive, part of their Project Management module.

The students made their way to the Tshwane Haven in Groenkloof, where they donated a group of essential items including dried goods such as rice, tinned foods, milk, cleaning detergents and preloved items for the benefit of the shelter’s residents.

Reflecting the school’s dual approach to learning, students from the Polokwane and Mbombela campuses, who participate through a distance model ensured they were not left out of the initiative. Their contributions were delivered to the centre the previous day through Checkers60, making distance no barrier to making a difference.

The initiative forms part of a deliberate effort to bring the classroom to life. Through this CSR drive, project management students are given the opportunity to apply the techniques and methodologies of the module in a real-world setting from planning and coordination, right through to execution and delivery.

“Our Project Manager did a great job in managing this project. The rest of the students were truly involved in the process and I am proud and excited for them,” said module lecturer Alveno Prins.

For student Phumlani Ndlovu, who served as the appointed Project Manager for the drive, the experience carried a significance that extended well beyond the module outcomes. “Giving back is fundamental for any good corporate citizen. Through the MBA programme, we are not only learning in a classroom format we are also developing skills by applying them, whether academically or practically, through the group activities and projects that we undertake,” he said.

The annual drive shows as testimony to Tshwane School of Business’ mission to producing graduates who are socially conscious and practically prepared for the world of business.
