GARLAND, Texas — A 39-year-old man was fatally stabbed in a seemingly random attack inside a Fiesta Mart grocery store in Garland on Friday, according to police documents. The suspect, Juan Reyes, later turned himself in to authorities after confessing the crime to his parents, who urged him to contact police.
According to arrest documents, Reyes told investigators he had been having thoughts of hurting someone because he felt he needed to prove he was tough. He entered the Fiesta Mart grocery store and deliberately selected a victim who was alone in the back of the store.
Police say Reyes approached the victim, Frankie, from behind and stabbed him. The 39-year-old Garland man died as a result of the attack.
After the stabbing, Reyes went home and told his parents what he had done. They encouraged him to turn himself in, and he subsequently surrendered to police.
The incident has stunned the community, as the attack occurred in a routine grocery store setting during what appeared to be an ordinary shopping trip.
Authorities have not released additional details about the victim’s full name or the exact circumstances surrounding the investigation at this time. Reyes faces charges in connection with the deadly stabbing.
