Mother of Slain Dallas Police Officer Darren Burks Sues Alleged Gunman’s Parents and Pawn Shop for Negligence

The mother of Dallas police Officer Darren Burks has filed a lawsuit accusing the parents of the man authorities say ambushed and killed her son of negligence.

Officer Darren Burks was shot and killed in September 2024 while sitting in his patrol car in Oak Cliff. Authorities say he was ambushed that day by 30-year-old Corey Cobb, who was later killed by responding officers.

Burks’ mother is suing Cobb’s parents, claiming they knew their son was amassing weapons at the home they shared, even as his behavior became increasingly erratic and unstable.

Also named in the lawsuit is the pawn shop that allegedly sold the firearms used in the attack.
