Drive-By Shooting at Denver Park Disrupts Easter Celebrations, Leaving One Dead and One Injured

Denver police continue to search for a suspect after a drive-by shooting at Russell Square Park on the city’s north side left two people shot during Easter Sunday festivities.

The incident occurred around 6 p.m. Sunday in the 3600 block of North Vine Street at Russell Square Park in the Cole neighborhood. At the time, the park was filled with families, children, and picnickers celebrating the holiday. Witnesses estimated 50 to more than 100 people were present, many enjoying family picnics on what had been a beautiful Easter Sunday.

Security camera video captured the gunfire, with neighbors and investigators describing an “incredible amount” of shots—more than 20, and possibly as many as 30—fired in rapid succession. The audio suggests the use of an automatic weapon. Neighbors reported believing it was a drive-by shooting, with some capturing video of a vehicle circling the park prior to the eruption of gunfire. Some of those at the park may have been targeted, according to local accounts.

When the shots rang out, people scattered in panic, with many running into nearby streets seeking safety. Two individuals were struck by the gunfire and immediately transported to area hospitals. As of Monday morning, one adult female victim had died from her injuries, while the second victim’s condition remained unknown.

Denver police responded quickly to the shots-fired call. Crime scene investigators remained on scene through the night and into Monday morning, processing evidence. Picnic tables and belongings left behind by fleeing families were later reclaimed once authorities allowed limited access.

No suspect description or motive has been released by police, and the investigation remains ongoing. No arrests have been reported.

The shooting has shocked the neighborhood, turning a peaceful community gathering into a scene of chaos and violence on a holiday meant for celebration. Police have not yet provided further details on what may have led to the incident.
