A man is recovering in the hospital and facing criminal charges after he was stabbed in the abdomen during a confrontation with a store clerk at a Circle K gas station on San Antonio’s south side early Thursday morning.
The incident occurred just after 5:30 a.m. at the gas station located on Southwest Military Drive. According to San Antonio police, the altercation began as a verbal argument between the customer and the clerk over the attempted purchase of beer.
Police said the man entered the store wanting to buy beer, but the clerk informed him that the sale could not be completed because it was before the legal time for weekday beer sales in Texas, which begins at 7:00 a.m. The explanation triggered an argument between the two.
During the dispute, the man allegedly attempted to leave the store with the beer without paying. This action escalated the situation into a physical fight. At some point in the struggle, a knife was produced and the customer was stabbed in his midsection.
The injured man was transported to a hospital, where he is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Firefighters provided on-scene treatment to the clerk for minor injuries sustained during the incident.
Police reviewed surveillance video from inside the store as part of their investigation. Authorities stated that the customer will be arrested and will face charges in connection with the stabbing.
No further details on the specific charges or the identities of those involved have been released at this time.
