A 35-year-old woman, Tshwarelo Faith Maboya, appeared before the Lephalale Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 8 April 2026, following her arrest in a multi-disciplinary intelligence-driven operation in Onverwacht, Lephalale.
Maboya is charged with possession of drugs. She was remanded in custody until 17 April 2026 for a formal bail application.
Her arrest took place on Tuesday, 7 April 2026, during an operation conducted by members of SAPS Lephalale Detectives, Lephalale K9 Unit, Modimolle K9 Unit, Dennilton K9 Unit, Mahwelereng K9 Unit, Masemola K9 Unit, and Lephalale Visible Policing. The operation was based on intelligence regarding alleged drug dealing activities in the area.
Police searched a flat in Onverwacht where Maboya was found. During the search, officers discovered 423 grams of crystal meth and 31 grams of CAT (methcathinone), with an estimated street value of R55,000. An amount of cash exceeding R1,000 was also found.
A 34-year-old Nigerian national, Simon Okoya, who is Maboya’s boyfriend, was also arrested during the investigation. He faces a separate charge of contravention of the Immigration Act (Act No. 13 of 2002).
Police investigations are ongoing.
