San Antonio police are investigating a case of family violence in which a woman was critically injured after being stabbed inside her home in the historic Monte Vista neighborhood.
The incident occurred on Lowellwood Avenue just after 8 a.m. Officers responded to a stabbing call at 8:15 a.m. and found the woman suffering from injuries to her upper body.
According to investigators, leading up to the attack the woman had called her son to say that his father was acting strange. By the time the son arrived at the home, his mother had already been attacked. She was transported to a hospital where she remains in critical condition, fighting for her life.
Her husband, who has not been identified, was arrested at the scene and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and family violence. Police indicated that he could face upgraded charges as the investigation continues.
Neighbors who have lived near the couple for decades expressed shock at the incident. One resident described seeing numerous police cars lining the street and said many neighbors came out to check on the couple out of concern.
“There’s probably at least 10 police cars, so of course I had no idea what happened. I think everyone will be very shocked to hear what has happened,” the neighbor said.
Another added that several neighbors were out this morning trying to figure out what had happened.
The couple had resided in the home for decades, and the sudden police presence surprised the quiet, historic neighborhood on the north side.
SAPD spokesperson statements confirmed the details of the response and the nature of the family violence incident. Authorities continue to investigate the case.
