Man Arrested for Rape After Victim Stabs Him with His Own Knife

Police in Mtontsasa have arrested a 35-year-old man from the Hlabathi locality in connection with the alleged rape of a 20-year-old woman.

The incident occurred on Sunday, 12 April 2026, at approximately 18:30. The victim was walking to visit her boyfriend in the Gqibelana locality when she encountered an unknown man. According to police, the suspect produced an Okapi knife, demanded sex, and proceeded to rape her.

During the assault, the victim pretended to be submissive. The suspect dropped the knife while raping her. The woman seized the opportunity, picked up the knife, and stabbed him twice in the neck. The suspect then fled the scene.

Preliminary investigations led police to the nearest hospital, where relevant information linking the suspect to the crime scene was obtained. The 35-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday, 14 April 2026, at approximately 06:50. Police found bloodstained clothing hidden under a bed in his room. The suspect had two stab wounds to the neck. The Okapi knife was later recovered at the crime scene.

The suspect is due to appear before the Lusikisiki Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 15 April 2026, on a charge of rape.
