San Antonio police have arrested 18-year-old Davonta Dantrell Love Jones on a capital murder charge in the fatal shooting of 19-year-old Devin Farias, who was gunned down in his westside apartment on March 11.
According to the arrest affidavit, Love Jones was one of three armed men who entered Farias’ apartment complex off Highway 90 and 410 just before 2 a.m. A witness told investigators that Love Jones entered the residence holding a gun in each hand.
The incident began when Farias was discussing a gun purchase with one of the suspects and invited him inside. That suspect then asked if two others could join them. Once all three men were inside, they pulled out their weapons, the affidavit states.
A witness reported that one suspect robbed Farias while assaulting him, while the other two, including Love Jones, held the remaining people in the apartment at gunpoint. Farias then followed one of the gunmen outside the apartment, at which point all three suspects opened fire, shooting him multiple times and killing him.
Police say Love Jones did not act alone, with the three men taking turns as shooters during the incident.
Following the shooting, the suspect who had coordinated the gun sale with Farias was brought in for questioning. At the conclusion of that interview, he called his mother and instructed her to contact Love Jones, telling him to delete everything from his Instagram account and to leave his apartment.
The family of Devin Farias is awaiting further arrests in the case.
Love Jones faces a capital murder charge as authorities continue their investigation into the deadly setup.
