Northern Cape police have arrested a suspect following the discovery of copper cables valued at approximately R100,000 in a vehicle on the R367 road during the early morning of Friday, 17 April 2026.
Members of the Kimberley Flying Squad (D Relief) responded to a report of a white Nissan NP200 bakkie allegedly transporting stolen cables en route to Kimberley from the direction of Douglas. Officers proceeded to the location, spotted the vehicle, pursued it, and brought it to a stop.
As the bakkie halted, the passenger exited and fled into open veld. The driver was apprehended on the scene. A search of the vehicle uncovered six rolls of copper cables, which the driver could not account for.
The driver was arrested, and a case of possession of suspected stolen property has been registered at Kimberley police station for further investigation.
