A 27-year-old man is facing a felony charge after authorities say he fled the scene of a deadly hit-and-run that killed a 43-year-old woman last month in Leon Valley.
According to court records and an arrest warrant, Matthew Valerio was behind the wheel when he struck the woman as she was walking along the 5500 block of Grissom Road on March 7. The woman later died from her injuries.
Investigators determined that Valerio left the scene and abandoned his vehicle in a nearby apartment complex. However, surveillance video captured him running from the area and entering another car, police said.
Valerio has since been arrested and is now charged with the felony offense of failure to stop and render aid, causing death.
The incident remains under investigation.
