Suspect in Custody After Shooting Outside Midtown Atlanta Nightclub

Atlanta police have taken a suspect into custody following a shooting that erupted outside a Midtown nightclub early Tuesday morning.

According to the Atlanta Police Department (APD), gunfire broke out just before 3 a.m. in a parking lot across from Ember Lounge. Officers who were already on patrol nearby spotted a man, now identified as Frank Watt, acting suspiciously next to a car.

APD officials said someone inside the vehicle pulled out a gun, prompting Watt to fire several shots as the car drove away. Witnesses reported that several cars were damaged in the incident.

No one appears to have been injured in the gunfire, police said.

A club patron who was inside Ember Lounge at the time described the chaotic scene that unfolded shortly afterward.

“We were just out at the club, me and my friend was at the club shaking our butts and then having a good time,” the witness said. “They told us to come upstairs, come outside. We come outside and it’s all police everywhere. One of our girls got their car broken into and people got their car broken into and — a lot of people got their car broken into and they did what they had to do.”

The suspect remains in custody as investigators continue to look into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
